I usually run out of things to say on the first attempt so this approach works better if I go and off the idea. I could make use of the time while away and thinking what to put on the paper.

This helps give me a better insight into my structures for my writing. It is interesting to really analyze the breakdown and then actually try to use a structure on an original piece. But its a recognition and attempted use of a process that can greatly improve writing in a very real way.

This made my head buzz for several minutes. Unlike Karel I cannot criticize it for being broad (which it needs to be) or vague (which it is not). The real issue is does it help me more easily structure my own initial ideas? On immediate reaction, it does. As I work further on my story it will be fascinating to discover how this actually works out in practice. Thanks for this.

Found your blog posting while looking up more about Story Structure by Larry Brooks. Fantastic breakdown, and I jotted down a whole page of notes. I feel so much happier about the manuscript I've been working on now, and I think I have a much better guide for the future. It's brilliant. Thanks!

A bit late, but-

@Karel, it's your job to create the story, not that of an outlining method. In my story for example, the primary conflict makes it's appearance when my MC is attacked. Also, as the post said, the Inciting Incident IS the First Plot Point or Plot Point 1.

Thank you Larry Brooks and Jordan. This is the best outline I have found, and I created one for my YA idea in just 4 hours or so, working out the details and now it all makes sense. I still have to put it to the test though, but I like the amount of freedom this outline gives.
