Top 5 books of 2010

This year, I set a goal to read at least 25 books (didn’t figure it’d be hard). I beat that and read 40 (woot!). My five favorite books published in 2010:

Cold as Ice
by Stephanie Black

Faithful Place
by Tana French

Heist Society
by Ally Carter (Just fun!)

Russian Winter
by Daphne Kalotay

The Year She Fell
by Alicia Rasley

I still had a number of 2010 books to read when I made this list (including Matched by Ally Condie [since read and enjoyed], Paranormalcy by Kiersten White and The Silence of God by Gale Sears), and I’m looking forward to attacking that ever-growing TBR with a vengeance this year!

What were your favorite books published in 2010? What books from last year do you still have to make time for?

  1. haven’t even heard of any of these, which demonstrates my ignorance of the current writing world. I’m filled with chagrin.

someday I’ll read your suggestions. I really like the cover art on several of them. (Is that lame of me to select or pass over a book based on its cover? Call me superficial)

I wanted to tell ya I just read your post on Shan’s blog. I laughed out loud at your updated version of “this too shall pass”. I think I might have to use that sometime… 🙂

    1. LOL, thanks. And no, you’re not superficial to judge a book on its cover—that’s what they’re there for. (For real.) If anyone tells you otherwise, remember this clip (from 0:36 to 0:56).

And don’t worry about keeping up with publishing; the books will be there in a year or two. (Plus, for these, I’m friends with two of the authors and fans of two of the others. For the life of me, I can’t remember how I heard about Russian Winter, though.)

  2. Jordan, I am so honored that my book made your list of favorites for 2010! Thank you so much!

One book I read that I thought was amazing was Brandon Sanderson’s The Way of Kings. It took me a while to read it, since it’s HUGE, and it took me a while to get into it with all the different storylines going on, but WOW! Sanderson is SO incredibly talented and skilled at what he does. (Okay, I didn’t actually finish it until 2011, but it still counts, right?)

Loved Matched, by Ally Condie (didn’t read it until this year, but I’ll count it since it was published in 2010).

I also thought Jeffrey Savage’s A Time to Die was a fun and creepy mystery. And Josi Kilpack’s Devil’s Food Cake was my favorite of the Sadie Hoffmiller series so far. Gale Sear’s The Silence of God was very impressive.

  3. I haven’t really paid attention to when the books I read and loved were published. But the most recent 2010 ones I do remember. I read and liked Matched. I read an expected to love, but really didn’t, Beautiful Darkness. And yeah. Drawing a blank. :p

    1. As I’m sure you do, I read lots of new books to support my published friends. But I actually used GoodReads to sort by publication date, then rating. Voila—just had to choose among my 4 stars. Otherwise, ranking my favorite books I read this year would have been too hard!

  4. Wow, great books you chose! I was inspired by your new year’s goal, so I’m going to make one like that! After all, English is my best subject (well, the one I like best anyways). My teacher DEFINATELY won’t mind my new goal ^_^
Anyway, I haven’t read all of these books, so I’ll read the ones I haven’t first. I’d love to know of any other books you suggest!
